This project is rated Medium to do.
What you need
- Fresh Lavender
- Needle and Thread
- 1/8" Ribbon
What you do
- Take 15 fresh stems of Lavender. If the lavender is not fresh see notes below.
- Tie them together about ¼" from the buds with thread using a square knot. A square not is when you tie a know knot with the left side over the right then tying right over left (like a double knot except that you switch sides).
- Adhere the ribbon near the base of the buds with a single stitch.
- Place the lavender upside down in front of you (buds closest to you).
- Start carefully folding the stems toward you.
- Start to weave the ribbon over then under being careful to alternate as you continue. This can be tricky for the first few passes then it becomes easier as you go.
- Once you have built this ribbon cage around the lavender buds then quickly wrap the stems to the bottom and the back up to the base making a crisscross pattern.
- Tie in a bow.
- Allow to dry.
Hints:
· To make this work the stems have to be pliable thus they need to have been just picked. If you buy dried lavender, try soaking them in water for a few hours before beginning.
· You can give this wand as a gift and would be great refreshing a bathroom, bedroom or personal accessory drawer.
· 15 stems work best but most any odd number of stems will do. The more stems the tighter the weave.
